Luton Town captain Sonny Bradley has opened up about his omission from the squad that played Reading last month, saying that he 'hadn't been at his best' in the games leading up to it.

The 28-year-old is in his second season at Luton since joining from Plymouth Argyle in 2018.

He was a key component of their title-winning campaign last season and played every minute of the Hatters' Championship campaign up until the Reading game last month.

Bradley has revealed why manager Graeme Jones chose to drop him for the game at the Madejski, and told Dunstable Today:

“I recognised leading up to the Reading game, the previous three games before that, it was a case of, for me personally, I sat down with the manager and had a really good chat, as I felt like I hadn’t been at my best."

“We went through quite a lot where I can improve and he just said I needed a break, I shouldn’t be playing."

Jones only omitted Bradley for the one game, reintroducing him for the home clash against Leeds -  Bradley's side were in-line to take a credible point that day, before an unlucky own-goal from Matthew Pearson in injury time gave Leeds the win.

“I came back against Leeds and I thought I put in a solid, honest performance and the same against Charlton, so I felt myself again," added Bradley.

Luton ended a run of five-straight defeats against Charlton last month, with goals from Pelly Ruddock and a first for the club for Izzy Brown giving them the three points, and lifting them out of the drop zone.

A 7-0 defeat at Brentford followed, a game best forgotten for Luton fans.

The verdict

Bradley is a quality captain for Luton and a player that the fans adore, and the players look up to.

He'll be crucial in keeping Luton in the Championship for next season and despite Jones dropping him for the Reading game last month, it was nothing more than a little break for the skipper - expect Luton to bounce back from the Griffin Park mauling against lowly Wigan this weekend.
