Luton Town defender Tom Lockyer believes his good form is down to not being involved in the Wales set up of late.

Having missed the most recent international games due to needing an injection, the 26 year old believes it's helped him improve over the last few weeks.

Having caught Covid-19 during pre-season, the defender struggled to get a place in the side but the extended time off over the international break meant that Lockyer was able to refresh and has now started the last eight games.

He's now formed an impressive partnership alongside Sonny Bradley and Kal Naismith and they've kept four clean sheets in five games.

Speaking about staying in Luton, he told Luton Today: “I missed the last international through injury and what it allowed me to do was really focus on Luton. I haven’t really had that in the previous camps, so I’ve been coming back a little bit behind the lads who have stayed and worked hard.

"For me it was fantastic to be able to stay here. Obviously I’d love to go away with Wales, but it wasn’t to be, but I think you can see the benefits it has had." Luton are currently unbeaten in their last five games and will be hoping to make it six away at Preston on Saturday and will need Lockyer in good form to do that. The Verdict Luton's solidity of late has allowed them to really push on. This season, they have been a bit more open as they've started to attack teams which has led to more goals being scored at this stage of the season compared to last season. Having a settled defence is imperative to Luton keeping this run of form going and Tom Lockyer, who was another free transfer signing for Luton, is essential to that. After being out injured for various periods last season, you can see the benefits of a fit Lockyer in this side.

It will be interesting to see how things might change moving forward, if Locker's form see him recalled by Wales for international duty in the not too distant future.
