Luton Town defender issues challenge for next season

Luton Town defender Amari’i Bell believes the team can achieve an even better league finish next season.

The Hatters earned a 6th place berth in the Championship last campaign, which saw the team face Huddersfield Town in the play-off semi-finals.

While Nathan Jones’ side lost to the Terriers, there is still a belief within the team that they can continue to improve over the next 12 months.

Luton have enjoyed a rapid rise through the divisions of the EFL to compete at the top end of the second tier.

But the 28-year old is targeting an improved league position for next season as the team eyes a possible promotion to the Premier League.

“We want to improve,” said Bell, via Luton Today.

“The aims and ambitions will probably be to better last season, whether that is top two, or a third or fourth placed finish.

“On a personal note, I thought it was a really good season.

“I’m not going to lie, I was a bit tired towards the end, but it was good to play that many games in a season.

“I’m just hoping I can stay fit and play as many as possible next season.

“Scoring my first goal against Barnsley was nice, even when I got the assist with Eli [Elijah Adebayo] after that nice bit of play against Millwall.

“Those moments make you feel good and I just want to experience more of those.

“Playing as many games as I can, and I want to contribute more in attack with goals and assists.

“Winning my duels defensively is something I pride myself on, so those three things are key.”

What year were the club founded?

Bell played 41 of Luton’s league games last season as Jones’ side earned 75 points.

The Jamaica national was an important player for the team and played a significant role in helping the club to reach the play-offs in their third season back in the second division.

The Verdict

Luton will need to avoid having a big drop-off in form having ultimately fallen short of promotion in the final hurdle.

This season saw the likes of Barnsley and Swansea City both fall away massively having earned a top six finish 12 months ago.

But Jones has turned this club around massively and has earned the trust of the supporters to keep the team competitive at the top end of the table.

A promotion challenge should be the aim as the team looks to improve, but it will be a competitive field fighting over those top six places.
