Neil Redfearn is on Luton Town's shortlist of potential candidates to take over as the club's manager, a report from a print edition of The Daily Star (26/04) has claimed.

Luton are searching for a new manager after sacking Graeme Jones and his coaching staff earlier in the week, with the club currently 23rd in the Championship table, six points from safety with nine games of the season still to be played at some point.

Now it seems as though the search for Jones' replacement is slowly starting to take shape, with the latest reports claiming that Redfearn is one name being considered by the Hatters, although the club will not be taking applications for the role during the ongoing suspension of the football season.

Former Leeds boss Redfearn has been out of work since leaving his role with Newcastle's Under 23's side back in November, a role in which he developed a reputation for developing young players.

It is thought that that is part of what has attracted Luton to Redfearn, with club chairman David Wilkinson said to be an admirer of the 54-year-old.

Redfearn himself is apparently keen to return to work following his departure from Newcastle, and would reportedly be open to entering negotiations with Luton about taking over in the Kenilworth Road dugout.

The Verdict

This may not be a bad appointment for Luton.

The Hatters do seem to be keen on Redfearn, whose managerial record to date is fairly respectable, meaning he could still be a reliable option to take over at Kenilworth Road.

Indeed, the fact that he is not currently working ought to help Luton here as well, since it should help to speed negotiations along with no other club to engage with, and allow the Hatters time to get Redfearn ready to step into the role when the season does eventually resume.
