Luton Town have confirmed that young defender Frankie Musonda has left the club to join St. Albans City on loan until January.

The Hatters confirmed the news on their official website, with Musonda becoming the eleventh player to leave the club since the end of last season and joins Josh Neufvile, Donervon Daniels and Jake Jervis out on loan.

Rising through the ranks at Kenilworth Road, Musonda has racked up 14 first-team appearances, although 11 of those have come in the EFL Trophy, and is yet to even make the first-team matchday squad this season.

During the previous campaign he spent a month on loan with Oxford City before being sent to Hemel Hempstead Town until the end of the season in January.

Graeme Jones will be desperate to pick up a win this weekend when they welcome high-flying Bristol City to Kenilworth Road, having not picked up three since their trip to Blackburn at the end of September.

But it has been far from a disastrous opening for the side following their emphatic promotion from League One last season, currently sat in 18th place, three points clear of the drop zone and nine behind the play-off pace.

The verdict

I think this move makes perfect sense for the Hatters.

Musonda clearly has talent but he is still a disappointingly long way away from showing it on a regular basis and being ready for first-team Championship action.

It seems like a big move. If it proves to be another failure it could well be the final straw for Luton Town.
