Luton Town are closing in on the signing of Andrew Shinnie on a free transfer, after the midfielder was released from Championship side Birmingham City.

The once-capped Scotland international had spent the season on-loan at Kenilworth Road and played a part as Luton secured promotion to League One.

And, according to HITC, that has prompted Nathan Jones to go after the midfielder again and he is poised to sign a permanent deal with the club.

Shinnie made 34 appearances for Luton last season, scoring three goals and weighing in with seven assists in what was a fantastic campaign for the Hatters.

Therefore, Jones will know exactly what he is getting when he brings the player in and the 28-year old is expected to be one of many additions at Luton as they look to strengthen ahead of their return to the third tier.

For Shinnie, after he was released from Birmingham it ends his five-year spell he was contracted to the West Midlands side although he hadn't played for Blues since the 2015/16 season.

The Verdict

This is a very good signing for Luton as Shinnie is a good player who knows the club and the team very well after spending this season there.

Clearly, he impressed the manager enough to warrant a permanent deal and now the challenge will be to make his mark in League One.

Many will fancy Luton to compete near the top again despite only just coming up so it's a good time to be at the club.
