Sky Bet League One champions Luton Town are interested in signing Coventry City defender Jordan Willis on a free transfer, according to reports from HITC Sport.

The Hatters are preparing for life in the Championship after a phenomenal season in League One, with former West Brom assistant manager Graeme Jones looking to hit the ground running when he takes over at Kenilworth Road in the summer.

And, according to HITC Sport, the club are said to be closing in on their first summer signing, in the form of Coventry City defender Jordan Willis.

The 24-year-old has been a fantastic servant for the Sky Blues, making over 200 appearances for the Midlands club after graduating from the academy.

The centre-half played a huge part in guiding Mark Robins' men to promotion from League Two last term, and after making 39 appearances this time around, the Sky Blues just missed out on a League One play-off finish.

But with his contract set to expire at the Ricoh Arena in the summer, Luton are reportedly looking to pounce, to add competition to Sonny Bradley and Matty Pearson who have been excellent all season long.

Luton confirmed the League One title with a 3-1 win over Oxford United on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

I think Willis is more than deserving of a step-up to the Championship next season.

He has been a fantastic player for Coventry over the years, but with life off the pitch far from tranquil at the Midlands club, it might be best to leave in the summer.

Luton need defensive reinforcements, and Willis would provide just that.
