Ipswich Town defender Luke Garbutt has opened up about how the Tractor Boys are managing to find goals from all over the pitch so far this season, and suggested that is making them a very tough prospect for their opponents.

Paul Lambert's side have got off to a strong start to the League One campaign, which has seen Ipswich swiftly turn around their poor form from last season which saw them relegated from the Championship, with the Tractor Boys' 3-1 win at struggling Southend United last weekend seeing them recover from back to back defeats, and climb back on top of the League One table.

Ipswich's strong start to the season has seen them find a real balance between defence and attack, with Lambert's side conceding just ten goals so far the best defensive record in the division, whilst also scoring the joint fourth most amount of goals with 24.

That has seen Lambert's side find goals from all over the pitch with James Norwood and Kayden Jackson getting seven goals each, Garbutt adding three and Jon Nolan, Kane Vincent-Young and Luke Chambers register two league goals so far.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, Garbutt suggested that Ipswich's ability to find goals from all over the pitch has been vital to their strong start to the League One season, and that it is making life difficult for their opponents, saying: "Spreading the goals around can only benefit us.

"If it was just the strikers scoring all the time - and then they didn't score - you might be wondering where the goals were going to come from.

"But so many players have contributed goals this season that you don't know where they are going to come from."

The Verdict

Garbutt is certainly right to highlight the importance of Ipswich's ability to find goals from all over the pitch so far this season, and with both Jackson and Norwood firing finding the target on a regular basis, the Tractor Boys will only need the rest of their squad to chip in a handful of goals to help them continue their promotion challenge.

The defender has been an astute addition by Lambert, arriving on loan from Everton in the summer, and he has already scored three vital goals in games against Burton Albion, Sunderland and Tranmere Rovers from left-back, which shows the depth in quality available to Ipswich in terms of players who can produce in the final third.

Given the Tractor Boys have started the season looking impressive in defence, although they have suffered a recent dip conceding twice to both Accrington Stanley and Rotherham United, the fact that they are scoring goals from all over the pitch suggests they could well be able to maintain their automatic promotion bid.
