Luke Freeman shares positive update to Sheffield United fans via Instagram

Published

It has been a very stop start season so far for Luke Freeman at Sheffield United with the 29-year-old only making the starting XI once in the league for the Blades.

Freeman has struggled to establish himself at Bramall Lane ever since joining the club in the summer of 2019 and spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

There is a lot of competition for places in central midfield with Conor Hourihane and Adlene Guedioura joining the ranks in the summer. If he cannot force himself into Slavisa Jokanovic’s plans before the January window then Freeman should start looking for an alternative destination, particularly with his contract running out at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old took to Instagram to supply Blades supporters with an update.

He wrote: “Great to be back out there with the boys after some weeks out.”

Sheffield United host Coventry City off the back of a three game winless run on Saturday, on the whole the supporters remain behind Jokanovic even though they are sitting in 18th place, Freeman’s return to fitness could give the Serbian manager a different angle of attack against the high flying Sky Blues.

St Mary's?

Luke Freeman is a very good midfielder at Championship level, it just has not been the right fit at Sheffield United which has seen his career stagnate a little. With his deal up in the summer there could be a large group of interested parties hoping to either agree pre-contract terms come the turn of the year or acquire his services for a smaller fee.

Jokanovic bringing in a veteran, who he has previously worked with at Watford, in Guedioura, tells you all you need to know about his thoughts on Freeman. Hopefully, the 29-year-old can be involved in some form between now and January but given his Blades career so far nothing is guaranteed.
