Luke Ayling reacts to Kalvin Phillips’ recent social update during EFL break

The Elland Road faithful have every reason to believe that this could finally be ‘the season’ in which they make a long-awaited return to the Premier League.

Leeds are currently sat top of the Championship, and are seven points clear of third-placed Fulham with just nine games remaining in this year’s campaign.

However, that push for promotion into the Premier League has been called to an abrupt halt due to recent off-the-field events, with no scheduled return date being set as of yet.

One player that has played his part in their promotion push is Kalvin Phillips, who has made 34 appearances in total for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

Phillips recently took to Instagram to reveal that he is keen to get back into action, and is missing his Leeds United team-mates during the ‘lockdown’ period.

Leeds full-back Luke Ayling was quick to respond to Phillips’ latest reveal on missing his team-mates, and stated that he is missing the midfielder.

It remains to be seen as to when competitive football will return, but Leeds will need to be at the top of their game for when it eventually does, as there is not a lot of room for error in the race for promotion.

The Verdict:

This sort of togetherness is exactly why Leeds are top of the Championship.

Unlike previous seasons, everyone seems to be pushing in the right direction, and that’s a key factor as to why they’re doing so well under the management of Marcelo Bielsa.

Ayling has really impressed me this season, and if he can continue to replicate his performances heading into the final nine games of this year’s campaign, then I can’t see anyone stopping Leeds from making a long-awaited return to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa won’t be allowing his side to get ahead of themselves by any stretch of the imagination though, that’s for sure.
