Leeds United are well on course to challenge for promotion in the later stages of this year's league campaign, with Marcelo Bielsa's side sat second in the Championship table.

But their promotion chances could be taking a slight dent with The Athletic revealing that Eddie Nketiah is set for a spell in the treatment room.

It leaves Marcelo Bielsa with a shortage in attacking options heading into a hectic period of the season, and the Leeds boss could be regretting letting one player in particular leave over the summer.

Kemar Roofe left Leeds for Belgium, as he completed a move to R.S.C Anderlecht after an impressive campaign where the former Oxford United man netted 14 league goals for the Whites.

Roofe scored for Anderlecht at the weekend in what was his fourth goal for his new club, and

Roofe's former Leeds United team-mate Luke Ayling evidently wasn't surprised to see Roofe on target for his new club as he responded to the Anderlecht striker's latest social post.

Ayling has recently returned to the first team picture from a spell out injured and will be keen to play his part in Leeds' promotion bid this season.

The majority of the squad from last year's league campaign remains and there will be a sense of expectation for Marcelo Bielsa's team to achieve promotion this time around after their play-off pain last term.

Leeds were beaten by Derby County in their play-off semi-final, which will have been a bitterly disappointing way to end a season that had looked as though it was Leeds' to lose at one stage.

The Whites are next in action on Saturday when they take on Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road, in a game where Marcelo Bielsa's side will be expected to pick up another three points to keep the pressure on the league leaders.

The Verdict:

They could certainly do with a player of Roofe's quality in front of goal at the moment.

With Eddie Nketiah out injured for Leeds now, it leaves Marcelo Bielsa with just one senior option in attack which is Patrick Bamford. The former Middlesbrough forward hasn't been at his best in front of goal, and there might be a hint of regret from Bielsa to allow Roofe to leave the club in the summer.

You have to feel that Leeds could potentially be clear of the promotion-chasing pack if they had Roofe in their squad for one more season as they look to win promotion to the Premier League.
