Leeds United sent out a real statement to their promotion rivals at the weekend, as they ran out convincing 4-0 winners against relegation-threatened Hull City.

The Whites took a two-goal lead after goals from both Luke Ayling and Pablo Hernandez saw them into a strong position heading into the closing stages of the game at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday.

Second-half substitute Tyler Roberts then netted a late brace to secure the three points, as Leeds increased the pressure on league-leaders West Brom.

Roberts was only on the pitch for 23 minutes in total against the Tigers, but certainly made a good impression on the Elland Road faithful, who voted him as Quest TV's Player of the Weekend, an award in which he won with a staggering 77.7% of the vote.

Leeds full-back Luke Ayling took to Twitter to react to this announcement, and evidently wasn't surprised to see that Leeds fans dominated the vote.

Roberts has found regular game time hard to come by with Leeds this season after returning to the matchday squad from an injury lay-off.

In total, he has made 13 appearances for the Whites this term, and will be hoping he can earn a start for Marcelo Bielsa's side in the near future after this impressive showing.

Leeds return to action this weekend when they host Huddersfield Town at Elland Road in a game they'll be expected to pick up three points from.

The Verdict:

Roberts certainly made a positive impact against the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.

I still don't think he's been given enough of a chance by Marcelo Bielsa this season, and he's been unlucky that the Leeds boss often persists with Patrick Bamford in attack.

Leeds' supporters are known for their tremendous travelling support up and down the country, so I'm really not surprised to hear that Roberts won the Player of the Weekend by such a large margin.

He could have a crucial role to play in Leeds' bid for promotion this season, and if he can continue to build on this impressive showing, then he could move ahead of Jean-Kevin Augustin in the pecking order at Elland Road.
