Oli McBurnie scored a late equaliser for Sheffield United yesterday as they drew 3-3 with Manchester United in the Premier League, which prompted a response on Instagram from Leeds United duo, Luke Ayling and Barry Douglas.

Leeds had gone toe-to-toe with Sheffield United in last season’s promotion race, with the Blades eventually coming out on top and securing a place in the Premier League.

Since then they’ve signed McBurnie from Swansea City, with the Leeds-born striker scoring his second Premier League goal in yesterday afternoon’s thrilling draw.

In wake of that, the 23-year-old posted on Instagram to reflect on his own heroics.

Amongst many fans and fellow professionals to react to McBurnie’s post, Ayling and Douglas also shared support with the following comments:

Whilst Sheffield United were in action on Super Sunday, Ayling and Douglas will have had their feet up after being part of the travelling Leeds squad that beat Luton Town 2-1 on Saturday.

Ayling completed 90 minutes and Kenilworth Road, whilst Douglas was an unused substitute.

Leeds are back in action tomorrow, with Ayling, Douglas and the rest of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad facing Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

The Verdict

It will have been a special afternoon for McBurnie yesterday, and it shows the relationships that professionals have with each other the fact that Ayling and Douglas moved to congratulate him.

Douglas and McBurnie will have crossed paths on the international stage, whilst both he and Ayling have come up against the 23-year-old regularly enough around the Championship.

The Leeds duo will hope it is them making that kind of splash in the Premier League next season.
