Luis Castro has emerged as the frontrunner for the managerial vacancy at Reading, and many fans will be hoping that he can be the man to fire them up the table after a dismal start to the season.

The Royals currently occupy one of the relegation places and are in search of a new manager after Paul Clement's dismissal last week.

Vitoria Guimaraes boss Castro is the favourite to succeed Clement, and the Royals have reportedly got officials over in Portugal trying to secure a deal to bring Castro to Berkshire.

Football.london revealed that Castro could have over €100m so spend across the next two transfer windows as they look to revamp the current playing squad.

But these funds will only be made available after some of the 'deadwood' has been moved on from the club, with the Royals having a number of players who have rarely featured in recent seasons.

But who are the players that could be axed in January if Castro arrives?

Find out here....

The 24-year-old has been one of the most frustrating players at the club in recent years.

Hariott missed all of last season and only made three league starts for Reading in the 2016/2017 season.

If you ask any Reading fan who they would want to see the back of as quickly as possible, the majority would say Harriott who has cost the club a considerable amount of money in wages, with just a handful of appearances made from the former Charlton winger.

Since arriving at Reading, the Romanian has made just 16 appearances in a two-year-spell with the Royals.

He has shown glimpses of his quality in his cameo appearances but it seems almost impossible that Popa will get in the starting XI ahead of Mo Barrow or Garath McCleary.

Clement is another Reading outcast that is yet to make an appearance for the Royals this season and he is unlikely to force his way into the firs-team anytime soon at the Madejski Stadium.

The 22-year-old Dutchman hasn't made the impact he would have hoped to in Berkshire since arriving from Jong Ajax in 2017.
