Morgan Fox and Lucas Joao will miss Sheffield Wednesday’s clash with Sunderland tomorrow, but Jos Luhukay is hopeful that the duo will be fit to face Brentford at the weekend.

The Owls have made a sloppy start to the Championship season, picking up just one point from their opening two fixtures.

Attention will turn to the Carabao Cup tomorrow, with Wednesday travelling to the Stadium of Light to take on League One outfit, Sunderland.

Fox and Joao will be absent, with the duo not training in the build up to the contest. However, Luhukay has told @SWFC that he hopes they are back in action by the weekend, with the Owls facing Brentford on Sunday.

On Saturday, Fox started against Hull City, but managed just 44 minutes, whilst Joao made a cameo appearance from the bench in the opening day defeat to Wigan.

Luhukay is yet to decide on the personnel he will turn to tomorrow at Sunderland, but the Dutchman did concede that youngsters could well be included in the matchday squad.

However, Luhukay played down the significance of that, stating that youngsters were involved in the squad against Hull.

The Verdict

Neither Fox or Joao are guaranteed starters in the Championship, so that duo missing a Carabao Cup clash means they are missing an opportunity to put themselves in Luhukay’s thoughts.

However, it’s a long season, so no risks need to be taken at this stage.

Luckily for Luhukay, he will have bodies available to deputise against Sunderland, with the hope that a few more senior players are available for the weekend.
