Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Kieran Lee is likely to be out for a further few weeks after sustaining another injury.

The 30-year-old has been out since December of last year with a hip injury that has had to be assessed by specialists.

He was continuing his comeback for the Owls’ U23s, but was forced off after just 15 minutes, with manager Jos Luhukay revealing he picked up a knee injury:

Luhukay has praised Lee’s character and added that the midfielder was ‘very disappointed’ at picking up the injury so close to a return to the first-team:

Lee has not played since the 3-1 defeat to Norwich City last December and will be bitterly disappointed he has suffered a further injury setback.

Sheffield Wednesday host Stoke City this weekend when the Championship season resumes after the international break.

The Verdict

This is bitterly disappointing news for the midfielder after recovering from a hip injury.

How many times, though, have we seen a player out with a long-term injury return and pick up another one.

It is part and parcel of football sometimes and when your luck is out, your luck is out.

It takes a strong individual to be able to get through barriers like this, and in Kieran Lee, Sheffield Wednesday have just that.

What is an extra few weeks when you’ve been out 10 months. This extra time in the treatment room will hopefully be the end of his problems before making a triumphant return to the first-team.
