New Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has outlined his plans to get the Owls playing exciting football under his stewardship.

Luhukay got off to a solid start in his first match in charge of the club on Friday night with a 0-0 away draw against local rivals Sheffield United, despite going down to ten men in the first half when Glenn Loovens was dismissed for a second yellow card.

He switched to a 3-5-2 system for that clash - a break from the 4-4-2 rigidly preferred by his predecessor Carlos Carvalhal - but has also revealed that this is not a defensive move and he wants to see the side on the front foot, creating chances and scoring goals.

Wednesday host League Two outfit Carlisle United in an FA Cup third round replay and while Luhukay wants to make changes, he wants it to be the first of many difficult matches for visitors to Hillsborough.

He told the club's official website: "It’s very important to make Hillsborough a difficult place to come. I want to see us create a lot of chances and score goals."

The Verdict

Luhukay needs to get the fans back onside and exciting and enterprising football is probably the quickest and most effective way to do that.

I wouldn't expect a particularly fluid performance tonight, given the changes likely to be made, but he needs to have his side producing them sooner rather than later.
