Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has admitted he is surprised by the demanding schedule his side face, but insists his team will cope with it.

The Owls are set to play Sunderland tonight in the Carabao Cup, which will see them play four games in ten days, including Brentford on Sunday, giving them just two days rest.

Whilst acknowledging it wasn't ideal, Luhukay told the Sheffield Star that he won't be using the hectic schedule as an excuse:

"I was a little bit surprised that the cup games are on Tuesday and we play Thursday. We have only two days recovery for the game on Sunday. It is very short but we must handle that. We must try to make the best of it.

"I will not use that (fixture schedule) as an excuse. We will go to Sunderland with a team who will try to win to get into the next round."

The former Borussia Monchengladbach coach is set to rotate his side somewhat tonight, with many younger players sure to be given a chance to impress.

The Verdict

This is a good attitude from Luhukay, as he shouldn't be using it as an excuse because he has a big enough squad to cope.

However, it is far from ideal to be playing two games in four days, so you will understand if he does play a weakened side tonight.

Ultimately, the league will take priority, but players will get a chance to stake a claim with a positive showing tonight.
