Nottingham Forest have today confirmed the departure of board director and club legend John Metgod.

The former midfielder will take up a new coaching job with United Arab Emirates' national side after almost two years in his role at the City Ground.

After a successful stint at Forest in his playing career, Metgod was appointed to the board in the summer of 2017 during Mark Warburton's brief stint at the managerial helm.

Metgod would have been involved in the decision to appoint new manager Martin O'Neill, following the dismissal of Aitor Karanka. O'Neill's reign is being widely described as a new era for the club, and that is now set to extend to the boardroom where it appears there will be a change of personnel.

The Dutchman said it was a difficult decision to leave the Midlands, but he did not rule out a return to the City Ground in the future.

"Everyone knows about my love for the people at the club and in the city so this was a very difficult decision for me," he said.

"The club have said I am always welcome back to The City Ground, so I intend to return and support the team whenever I can."

Forest supporters have had a mixed response to Metgod's departure. Here are some their reactions on Twitter...
