Leeds United midfielder Jordan Stevens has been handed a six-week ban from all footballing activities by the FA, drawing a mixed reaction from fans of the club.

Stevens, who also received a £1,200 fine, admitted to placing 59 bets on football matches between August 2018 and May 2019, five of which involved Leeds.

The six-week ban starts with immediate effect and means he cannot play for or train with the club, or interact with the players or coaching staff.

Stevens joined Leeds from Forest Green Rovers in January 2018 and has made one senior appearance for the Whites.

In a statement on the club website, Leeds acknowledged the sanction but were critical of the extent of the punishment.

Club chief executive Angus Kinnear said: “Whilst we fully recognise the importance of the FA's role in protecting the integrity of the game, we are hugely disappointed in the FA's choice of sanction.

“To prevent a young footballer from taking part in any football activities at such a critical period of his career is a disproportionate punishment following a foolish mistake from a young player.”

The FA’s decision appears to have drawn a mixed reaction from the Elland Road faithful.
