Sheffield Wednesday’s luckless striker Gary Hooper is attracting interest from the MLS and China this month, with clubs seemingly willing to offer him a route out of Hillsborough.

According to Sky Sports, DC United and Vancouver Whitecaps are showing an interest in the 30-year-old, whilst clubs in China have also expressed an interest in the Hillsborough forward.

Hooper is yet to feature for the Owls this season, with the striker actually missing over 12 months of action due to a series of injury problems.

The last time Hooper pulled on the blue and white of Wednesday was back in December 2017, with the striker unavailable throughout Jos Luhukay’s entire spell as the club’s manager.

In 76 Championship appearances for the Owls, Hooper has scored 29 goals, proving to be reasonably prolific since his arrival from Norwich City in 2015.

Today, an update on his fitness was provided in the Sheffield Star, with Hooper back running as he looks to get back into first-team contention.

Despite the boost of that, Steve Agnew was unable to confirm an exact date when Hooper could be returning, admitting it was still a while away.

As things stand, Hooper will become a free agent in the summer.

The Verdict

Hooper has quickly become the forgotten man at Hillsborough and it doesn’t seem like he will be available to Steve Bruce anytime soon.

Given that he hasn't played football in over 12 months, interest in him is a surprise.

Should a club make their move to sign Hooper, who has a history of long-term injuries, it'd be a risk.
