Derby County’s Mason Bennett has issued a message following confirmation of his injury setback, with the forward describing the news as difficult to take before moving to mention his teammate, Craig Forsyth.

The Rams were well beaten by Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon, with Frank Lampard’s side losing on home turf for the first time since August.

The defeat was overshadowed by injuries to Bennett and Forsyth, though.

Confirmation has come recently that the duo are facing a significant spell on the sidelines. Bennett has injured a hamstring and will see a consultant this week, whilst Forsyth’s season appears to be over following cruciate ligament damage.

After the news was confirmed, Bennett took to social media to thank fans for their support before issuing a classy message to Forsyth.

The duo had featured regularly this season for the Rams, helping Lampard’s side into promotion contention in the Championship.

Bennett, 22, had featured on 14 occasions in the league, scoring one goal and registering three assists.

Half of Bennett’s appearances had come from the bench, but Forsyth was a much regular start under Lampard, with the left-back starting 10 league fixtures, which saw him return four assists.

The Verdict

This is obviously a setback for Derby, but also the players, who look like they will be out for a significant period.

Bennett’s message has a touch of class, particularly the note to Forsyth, who will be absolutely gutted.

Now, it’s about recovering the best the duo can and supporting Lampard’s side, who are in a very strong position.
