Luciano Becchio is back in England and looks set to be attending Elland Road this afternoon as Leeds United take on Wigan Athletic in the Sky Bet Championship.

Leeds are locked in a battle for automatic promotion in the Championship this season, and this afternoon’s clash with Wigan is the first of four hugely important games for the Whites during the run-in.

And, Marcelo Bielsa’s side look set to be supported by a former Elland Road favourite in the form of Becchio, with the 35-year-old heading back to the city ahead of the Easter schedule.

The Argentine has shared a series of update on his Instagram story, heading back to Leeds and then of Elland Road:

Becchio played for Leeds between 2008 and 2013, scoring 86 goals for the Whites in the process.

He was part of Simon Grayson’s side that won promotion from League One during the 2009/10 season, whilst he adapted well to life back in the second-tier, helping Leeds to seventh.

Becchio left Leeds for Norwich and also had a spell with Rotherham in the Football League.

The Verdict

Becchio was always a popular figure at Leeds and him returning will be nice for many to see.

He knows what promotion is all about for the people of Leeds having witnessed it during their League One days, and he will be hoping Bielsa’s side can take a giant stride towards the Premier League this afternoon.
