Luciano Becchio has given subtle nod to Leeds United’s famous victory over Manchester United back in 2010, with the Argentine discussing Dimitar Berbatov and the reference to him in his Elland Road terrace chant.

Leeds had their line led by Becchio between 2008 and 2013, with the Argentine striker a real fan favourite at Elland Road, scoring 86 times and making over 200 appearances.

The famous chant on the terrace sees the Leeds fans chant: “Luciano, Luciano, costs less than Berbatov, but he scores more goals.” It is still sung to this day, particularly when Becchio makes an appearance at Elland Road as a spectator.

In a recent interview with The Athletic, Becchio was quizzed on whether he has ever met Berbatov and had the opportunity to remind him of the song.

The ex-Leeds man admitted he hadn’t, but has played against him one: January 3rd 2010.

Becchio revealed: “Ha ha. No, I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting him, only of playing against him in a certain game. Which, by the way, we won 1-0.”

The game in reference is Leeds’ famous 1-0 win at Old Trafford in 2010, when Jermaine Beckford’s goal put third-tier Leeds into the fourth-round of the FA Cup at the expense of the Premier League champions.
