Lucas Joao certainly hit the ground running this season with Sheffield Wednesday, as he scored against Reading on the opening day of the season at the Madejski Stadium in a 3-1 win for the Owls.

But that was Joao's last appearance for the club, as he moved to Reading shortly after that game. The forward made 127 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, and scored 29 goals in his time with the club.

He has since hit five goals for the Royals this term, and will be hoping he can hit the ground running for when football does return, with recent off-the-field events calling a halt to the sporting calendar.

Joao has recently been answering questions from a number of Sheffield Wednesday supporters about his time with the club, and spoke highly of the Owls.

Speaking in a Q&A session on his Instagram page, Joao issued an insight into playing alongside Owls midfielder Barry Bannan, and was full of praise for the Scotsman.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently sat 15th in the Championship table after a dismal run of results since the turn of the New Year saw them slide down the table at an alarming rate.

The Verdict:

It's no surprise to hear Joao speaking highly of Bannan.

The Scottish midfielder has been a key member of the Sheffield Wednesday squad for a number of years now, and is the man they rely on to provide the creative spark for the Owls going forward.

Joao is now playing his football for Reading, and will be hoping he can make up for lost time when football does return, having missed a number of games through injury.

If he can hit the ground running, then it seems likely that the Royals will finish above Sheffield Wednesday in the second tier standings this season.
