Lucas Joao isn't letting his recent form affect his mentality.

The Portuguese striker has been one of the few positives from a dismal season for the Owls - he has scored seven goals in 22 appearances even though he has been rotated a lot with the other strikers.

Luhukay's trust him in him recently has been rewarded by the striker because he has scored four times in the last five league games.

His double against Derby County gave Luhukay his first and only win of the season.

However, even though he is one of the players that Luhukay favours, it isn't often that he gets a full 90 minutes or a run of consistent starts.

Joao has been unlucky in this regard because Carlos Carvalhal was similar in his treatment with him.

In his pre-match press conference, Joao was quick to downplay his accomplishments, though: "It’s nice to be scoring goals, but not when we are in this position."

"I’m happy to be helping the team. Scoring goals is my job, it’s my position. I just hope I can keep helping the team."

Even though he is only 24-years-old, Joao is clearly mature beyond his years because these were the comments you would expect from a seasoned professional.

The Verdict

Joao is taking nothing for granted and it's good to see how professional he is being in the face of the club's struggles.

Luhukay should take note of this because he deserves more starts and is clearly a team player.

None of the other strikers have been as consistent, so Joao deserves a run of games to really show what he can do for the team especially with the importance of the upcoming Bolton clash for Wednesday's survival.
