Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe has challenged forwards Joel Grant and Zak  Rudden to continue scoring the goals for his Pilgrims side if they are to remain in the starting 11.

The pair both notched in the Leasing.Com Trophy fixture away at Swindon Town on Tuesday as Plymouth won 0-3, with the pair set to continue as the strike force as Plymouth head back to Swindon for a league clash tomorrow.

Rudden's goal was his first in nine games for Plymouth since signing on loan from Rangers in the summer, while Grant provided that assured head next to the 19-year-old as the pair linked up well during their first outing as a strike partnership.

Ryan Lowe said via the Plymouth Herald: "Have we found the balance now and have we found the front two? It remains to be seen.

“Yeah, Tuesday night was good but if they are selected Saturday they need to go again and again and again, and keep going along the way.”

“Ultimately you have got to score goals and that’s what we want from them.”

The 6'2" frame of Rudden contributed to the young forward scoring 12 league goals on loan at Falkirk last season, and Rangers gaffer Steven Gerrard has now trusted Ryan Lowe to be the man to continue Rudden's development at Home Park.

Rudden has had an injury-hit start to the season and has found himself working his way back into contention with Plymouth after some impressive performances lately, most of all coming on Tuesday as Lowe made seven changes to his side.

The Verdict:

Rudden and Grant both have goals in them, with the pair complementing each other nicely as Plymouth went forward against Swindon.

Rudden's quick, energetic play but also his build and physicality caused the Swindon defence problems, and Grant's quick feet helped create chances for himself and his team-mates around him. Both should be in contention to start together tomorrow.
