Torquay United striker Jamie Reid is having a fruitful season so far in the National League, the top tier of Non-League football, as he has bagged 14 league goals already this campaign.

The former Exeter City youth academy graduate helped fire the Gulls to promotion last season from the National League South at the first time of asking under new manager Gary Johnson, scoring 29 league goals and finishing top of the goalscorers' chart.

Reid has clearly taken his renewed confidence after a difficult few years into the new season, and his record so far this campaign has attracted the interest of Championship club Luton Town according to an exclusive broken here at Football League World.

The 25-year-old striker has never played football higher than League Two, and only that was 23 appearances during his Exeter days as a youngster.

Graeme Jones has clearly seen something in the striker that he likes and sees him as a potential backup to main striker James Collins, who is Luton's only real threat at the top end of the pitch, however signing a striker that has never played higher than the lowest level of the Football League would be a gamble.

The good news for Luton though, if they were to move for Reid, is that the striker wouldn't be particularly costly unlike if they were to make a move for somebody like an experienced Championship striker, who could cost a couple of million.

The former Dorchester Town and Truro City loanee is a striker who is capable of scoring all kinds of goals. Predominantly a forward who likes to play on the shoulder of the last man and is capable of going in behind, he also has the freedom in a Torquay side where he can drop deep and pick the ball up before making something happen.

Reid is deadly from the penalty spot and is good in the air, as well as netting goals for fun from inside the area. However, the striker is also susceptible to scoring beauties from outside the box, including this fine touch and finish against Aldershot Town back in August.

If Reid was comparable to a famous name from higher on up the football pyramid, he wouldn't be too dis-similar to Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

His ability to score all types of goals as well as being competent in the air and having pace about him, Reid can be described as a type of all-round striker who can do a little bit of everything.

Now in the prime of his career, this could be one of the final chances that Reid has to secure a move on up to the Football League, however if Luton were to make a move for the non-league marksman in January, his loyalties would be tested with Torquay chasing their own EFL dream as they sit fifth in the table and are just the two points off the top.
