Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Massimo Luongo is expected to be back fit and ready to play after the upcoming international break, which has drawn an excited response from fans of the Yorkshire club.

Luongo started the season in fantastic form and was hailed by manager Garry Monk as one of his best performers but has been missing since October due to a knee injury.

Speaking to club media ahead of Saturday's game against Millwall, the Wednesday boss provided a positive update on the Australia international's fitness.

He said: "Massimo was back on the grass today and stepping up his fitness, we are hopeful he will be fit and ready when we come back after the international break."

Wednesday's form has dropped dramatically in the midfielder's absence, with Monk's men losing four on the bounce before Tuesday night's victory over Bournemouth.

His return is fantastic news for the Owls, particularly given some of the other injury updates that have emerged recently – with Aden Flint set to be sidelined for months.

The Yorkshire club confirmed some more good news yesterday as they revealed that their EFL sanction for breaking spending rules had been reduced to a six-point deduction, down from 12.
