Swansea City progressed in the League Cup after a 4-1 victory at home to Plymouth Argyle last night.
Russell Martin made plenty of changes for the clash against the League One side, with Morgan Whittaker handed a rare start in an attacking role and he responded with a magnificent display that resulted in an 11-minute hat-trick.
The former Derby County has had to be patient this season as he waits for opportunities but he showed his class with three well-taken goal against Ryan Lowe’s side.
With the Swans struggling for goals in the league this season, it’s sure to give Martin food for thought ahead of the weekend trip to Preston. And, it could also force a rethink on Swansea’s transfer plans, with recent reports claiming Whittaker could be going out on loan.
21 things every Swansea City fan should know about their club, so can you score 100% on this?
Some fans would certainly be against that, and here we look at some of the reaction to his display from Twitter…
Whittaker again 👏🏼👏🏼. Love to see him get more minutes for us #Swans

He is a bad man that Morgan Whittaker!
Two goals and a point to be made.
He can fit in the system and can bag goals.
Go on then!

I’ve had Whittaker in my recent lineups and said previously I’d be surprised if he was sent out on loan. He looks a major threat when he plays and deserves his opportunity in the league over Cullen. Doing his chances the world of good tonight #swans 🦢

Surely Whittaker has played himself out of a loan now #Swans

Definitely could not see that scoreline after Plymouth equalised. Fair play to the players who responded excellently after that went in. What a performance from Whittaker, absolutely quality. Definitely is pushing for a start on Saturday after that. Onto the next round! #Swans

Really rated Whittaker since he joined. Would be gutted to see him go out on loan #Swans
