‘Love this’, ‘Brilliant man management’ – Leeds fans react to manager’s latest decision

Adam Pope of the BBC has revealed that new Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen will leave the decision over who should be the club’s new captain down to the playing staff at Elland Road.

Pope has stated that the choice of who is best to represent the team, especially in the presence of the Yorkshire club’s board, will be left in the hands of Christiansen’s playing staff.

Last season, during which Garry Monk was at the helm at Elland Road, and a late decline in form saw Leeds miss out on the play-off spots, finishing seventh, saw the Leeds players led by former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Liam Bridcutt.

However, the Scottish international will have to earn the retention of the armband through the support of his players, with no shortage of viable candidates already in the Elland Road dressing room, and Bridcutt’s spot in the heart of Christiansen’s midfield by no means certain.

Leeds fans reacted largely happily to the decision, praising Christiansen’s innovation and man management, while largely offering support for Pontus Jansson, the Swedish international centre-back to be the man elected.

Some fans were concerned that Christiansen was dragging the process out too much, with one raising the valid point that the players might choose someone who is not really in Christiansen’s first team picture – although the obvious response was given, there can be many captains and leaders in the squad.

Leeds fans – who would you like to see elected as captain by the players? What do you make of the new approach by Christiansen? Let us know below…
