‘Love the honesty and transparency’ – Many Charlton fans react to Thomas Sandgaard’s claim about duo’s future

Charlton Athletic owner Thomas Sangaard has revealed his stance on the futures of Alfie Doughty and Dillon Phillips, which has drawn an interesting reaction from fans of the south London club.
After spending the majority of 2020 under a transfer embargo, Sandgaard’s takeover has led to a very busy few weeks for the Addicks as Lee Bowyer looked to make changes to his squad.
The deadline for EFL clubs to do domestic transfers is 5pm on Friday and, speaking to London News Online, the Charlton owner has revealed his stance on Doughty and Phillips, with both players in the final year of their current contracts.
Both Celtic and Luton Town have reportedly had bids turned down for Doughty but Sandgaard has indicated that he doesn’t see him leaving during the current window and suggested he wanted to offer the player a new deal.
He said: “Alfie Doughty is someone we expect to be staying. He’s part of the future of the club. I’m not really interested in selling at this point.
“No I don’t see that [Doughty going before the deadline]. He’s too important.”
Phillips was the Addicks’ player of the season last term but has become something of an outcast following transfer speculation, with Birmingham City and Middlesbrough among the clubs linked.
Sandgaard has suggested that the Charlton shot-stopper could yet leave the club this summer.
He said: “I can definitely see Dillon Phillips leaving because he has expressed such a strong interest not to stay with the club.
“That makes sense. We have a couple of days left to see if things work out for another club for him.”
Do these celebrities support QPR, Watford, Luton or Charlton Athletic?
The Addicks owner’s comments have drawn an interesting reaction from fans of the south London club, with many taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts.

Sadly agents are the scum of the earth. Dillon could, if he’s not careful get left high and dry. If he doesn’t play for anyone until the summer his bargaining power will be diminished. As all say no one needs a goalie! Certainly not a number 1 above L1.

So important we keep Alfie if we have ambition. Dillon, see ya then 👋

@Dillon_Phillips needs a new agent. His time at Charlton shouldn’t end like this

Brilliant communication. No more selling off hot prospects on the cheap to line the pocket of a certain greedy Belgian.
