Former Stoke City boss Lou Macari believes that the Potters should take a point tonight as they look to extend their good run under Michael O'Neill.

The Northern Ireland manager took charge of the Staffordshire outfit earlier this month and guided the team to an impressive win against relegation rivals Barnsley before they followed that up with a stoppage time victory on Saturday at home to Wigan.

As a result, Stoke are only in the relegation zone on goal difference and could move out of the bottom three with a draw tonight.

And, writing for Stoke-On-Trent Live, Macari revealed he would be happy for the team to make it three unbeaten when they come up against the Bluebirds.

"Cardiff isn’t a must-win now, not after those six points, and I bet there’s plenty of Stoke followers, including the manager himself, who’d take a point from the Cardiff game if you offered it now.

"A draw would certainly do nicely in maintaining this recent momentum and adding to the confidence boost the players have enjoyed after those back-to-back wins."

The game this evening will be Neil Harris' first in charge of the Welsh side at home.

The verdict

Whilst some Stoke fans may not want to hear this, the reality is that it would be a very good result for the side as they look to climb out of the bottom three.

Of course, that's not to say they should go and play for a point - just that it would be a decent outcome.

However, O'Neill will have the side believing they can win and it will be very interesting to see what happens.
