‘Lost for words’ – Many Derby County fans react to details of Rooney, Knight incident

Derby County midfielder Jason Knight’s 12-week injury setback was reportedly caused by Wayne Rooney in training, which has drawn a frustrated response from fans of the East Midlands club.

Knight is understood to be facing at least two months out due to an ankle issue – adding to the Rams’ current player crisis.

Due to summer departures, financial issues, and an ongoing transfer embargo, Derby currently only have nine registered senior players and are now set to be without the Republic of Ireland international for up to 12-weeks.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Knight’s injury is due to a training-ground accident during their recent pre-season camp at luxury hotel and spa Pennyhill Park after Rooney went in for a “50-50” on the academy product.

It is said the former England and Manchester United captain was only taking part due to a lack of numbers.

Have any of these 25 players ever scored against the Rams?

Has Adam Armstrong ever scored a goal against Derby County?

2021 has been a difficult year for the Rams so far both on and off the field. Rooney’s side narrowly avoided relegation on the final day but with two takeover bids falling through, financial issues have hampered their preparations for the new campaign and left them looking like relegation candidates.

This latest update appears to have drawn yet more frustration from the Pride Park faithful, with many fans taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts…
