Things are already brewing nicely in terms of the January transfer window and we are only two days into the market.

We should expect plenty of action over the coming weeks as clubs strive to improve their sides where they can and it certainly seems as though Aston Villa will need to be busy.

Indeed, worrying news today for the Villans is that Wolves are looking to seal a permanent deal for Tammy Abraham - who has excelled on loan at Villa Park.

Losing such a player would be a blow, of course, and mid-season makes the potential impact even greater but, at the same time, it means the Villans can look for other options.

The most striking potential replacement that they might have a chance of getting, then, is Neal Maupay.

The French forward started this season in scintillating fashion for Brentford with him leading the scoring charts early on and excelling under Dean Smith's tutelage.

Since, of course, Smith has moved to the West Midlands and the Bees have lost their way somewhat - though Maupay on an individual level has still scored goals, albeit at a lesser rate.

Certainly, he has the ability and confidence to deliver a return similar to that of Abraham and in Smith he'd be working under a manager proven in getting the best system set-up around him.

The Bees won't want to let him go, of course, but Villa have the clout and - the way things have gone this season - the better prospects to tempt him away.

If Abraham leaves, Maupay is the ideal replacement.
