Sunderland's 19-year old scoring sensation Josh Maja has been linked with a move to three Premier League clubs this morning, with Southampton perhaps the 'smallest' of the chasing pack.

They're joined by Spurs and Manchester City in their hunt for the nine-goal striker who has taken League One by storm.

Maja made his Football League debut in December, scoring against Fulham, but went 17 matches without another goal in the Championship. Since relegation, he's thrived, leading the Black Cats to third in the league with his remarkable scoring streak.

That has alerted the big boys to his talents and surely resulted in a flock of scouts attending Sunderland's recent matches against Peterborough and Bradford, both of which Maja scored in. His contract is up at the end of the season and he may be primed for a big move.

Would St. Mary's be the right destination for him? Or should he stay put and build a reputation with the Black Cats? Our Football League experts discuss.

George Dagless

He'd be worth a real look.

Southampton have some good attackers with Danny Ings the leader but Maja could become a first-team player for them.

With their record of bringing through young players, it looks a potentially good move.

Jacob Potter

I certainly feel as though Maja would be an excellent fit in the Southampton side and the Saints' previous experience in developing talent will be crucial here and Maja could be tempted because of that.

He will been keen to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Adam Lallana, Gareth Bale and Luke Shaw.

Jay Taylor

Southampton have not started well and if that continues, they could find themselves in the same league as Sunderland next year if things continue for both clubs.

There are better options out there for Josh Maja, but, Southampton have a proven track record of nurturing young talent and getting them to be the best they can be.

In that respect, it could be a good move but in terms of their current form, I would imagine Maja will be looking at other options should they present themselves.

George Harbey

Southampton have a fantastic youth setup, however, I think if Maja was to move to a top-flight club then it should be a top-four one.

Even if he did break into the first team, Southampton don’t really do a lot in the Premier League - they’re lucky to finish in the top half every year.

He needs to show more ambition and snub a move should one materialise.
