Blackburn Rovers opted to bolster their squad in the final week of the summer transfer window by signing three players.

As well as securing the services of Dom Hyam and George Hirst, Rovers swooped for Clinton Mola on deadline day.

Mola is set to represent Blackburn for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign after the Championship side reached an agreement with Stuttgart over a loan deal.

Rovers will have the opportunity to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis next year due to a clause included as part of this deal.

After being included in Blackburn's match-day squad for their 3-2 defeat to Bristol City last weekend, Mola will be hoping to make his debut for his new side when they face Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Ahead of this upcoming fixture, FLW's Blackburn Rovers fan pundit Toby Wilding has admitted that he believes that Mola could prove to be a good addition to the club's squad.

Speaking to FLW, Wilding said: "Looks a good signing in the sense that Rovers for much of the summer transfer window it always seemed as though there were two to replace in [Darragh] Lenihan and [Jan Paul] van Hecke.

"Bringing Mola means that they've done that.

"Obviously, still it's the very early stages of his career but the pedigree he has playing at youth level both for Chelsea and England is certainly promising.

"I think an important factor of course is that he's left-footed and that's something that Rovers did need to look at in terms of their search for a centre-back, a left-sided option in the centre of defence was still needed as back up for Scott Wharton.

"They've got that with Mola and the fact that this a loan-to-buy is important as obviously it means that this could well be a long-term option for Rovers which certainly helps them in terms of meaning that they might not have to find themselves in this situation again in terms of struggling to find centre-backs next summer.

"It does show some welcoming intent from the club in terms of finances they are willing to put into this deal."

The Verdict

Having parted ways with Lenihan and van Hecke earlier this year, Blackburn certainly needed to strengthen their options in the heart of defence during the previous transfer window.

Capable of playing as a centre-back and as a defensive midfielder, Mola's versatility could prove to be useful for Rovers as they look to push on in the Championship.

Whereas it may take Mola some time to adapt to life in this division due to the fact that he has yet to feature in the second-tier during his career, he will be confident in his ability to make a difference at this level.

By producing some positive performances in the coming weeks, Mola could potentially earn a regular spot in Blackburn's starting eleven.
