Leeds United overcame a dismal run of three straight defeats to secure victory over Middlesbrough on Sunday, but the win was marred by a series of ugly incidents in the high-octane affair at Elland Road.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay announced via Twitter that the FA had opened multiple investigations into a series of incidents at the ground, including the throwing of flag poles onto the playing surface by riled Leeds fans.

The flags, provided as a gesture by chairman Andrea Radrizzani to inspire an electric atmosphere at Elland Road, were hurled onto the field, and the FA is set to look into whether the Whites should be punished for their failure to control the actions of their fans.

The game was equally as hard-fought on the field, with Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala courting controversy for a series of fouls that went unpunished.

Hay reports that the FA is also looking into footage of an apparent ‘punch’ thrown by the Spaniard, with the player facing the possibility of a retrospective ban pending the outcome of the investigation.
