Tom Huddlestone has reportedly rejected Derby County's first contract offer, with the midfielder approaching the latter stages of his current deal at Pride Park.

The Athletic claim that the midfielder was offered a new 12-month deal by the club, with an option which would allow the club to extend that deal.

But it is understood that Huddlestone wants a two-year deal at Pride Park, with an option to become a player/coach in the second year.

It has been a frustrating campaign for Huddlestone, who has found game time hard to come by under Phillip Cocu this season having encountered a number of frustrating injury problems.

The experienced midfielder has made only 11 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship this season, with a hamstring injury keeping him out of action for over three months.

The 33-year-old has made over 90 appearances for Derby, however his time at Pride Park could come to an end if a deal cannot be agreed by the end of next month.

Cocu has a number of big decisions to make on some of his players' futures this summer, with Chris Martin also reportedly rejecting the club's first contract offer; a very similar contract to Huddlestone's.
