Hull City manager Nigel Adkins has said that his side “played one of the best teams the Championship has seen in years” as his Tigers side fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Leeds United on Tuesday night.

Tyler Roberts’ second-half goal condemned the Tigers to their seventh league defeat of the season, and Adkins’ men sit just above the relegation zone after eleven league outings.

But the former Southampton and Sheffield United boss was quick to forget about his team’s form, and immediately praised ‘one of the best teams the Championship has seen’ in Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

“I thought we played against one of the best teams I’ve seen in the Championship for many years,” said Adkins.

“They are an excellent side, they’re going to take teams to the cleaners - if you think we’re on a level playing field then we’re not”, he added.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay, was quizzical of Adkins’ post-match interview, implying that he was deflecting from his side’s dismal performance.
