Reading are not quite safe from relegation yet but Paul Clement has guided the Royals to five points above the drop zone.

With just three games left to play, Reading are almost over the line and have nearly preserved their Championship status for next year.

It has been a bitterly disappointing season for Reading considering how close they were to going up via the play-offs last year.

After survival is ensured, Clement will immediately turn his attention to the transfer market as he looks to bring in his own players to compete for promotion again next season.

The summer transfer window is vitally important for the Royals as they need to bolster their squad and add some quality players so that they are competing at the opposite end of the table by this time next year.

Here are four English players that Reading should definitely consider making a move for this summer.

Paul Clement worked with Kyle Bartley at Swansea last year and he should launch a swoop for the towering centre half this summer.

The 26-year-old has proven his quality at Championship level before and he might fancy a move away from Swansea for guaranteed first team football.

Oxford United man Ryan Ledson would be a terrific addition to Reading's midfield.

The 20-year-old, formerly of Everton, is one of the best midfielders in League One despite his young age and a Championship move cannot be far off.

Reading could do with an injection of pace and flair in the wide areas and Charlton star Tarique Fosu would be ideal.

The 22-year-old has nine goals and three assists this season for the Addicks in League One and he will only get better as he plays more matches.

With Yann Kermorgant on his last legs, Reading need another striker to compete with Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Adam Armstrong, 21, is unlikely to break into the Newcastle team and he has impressed with nine goals and two assists in 13 starts on loan at Blackburn - indicating that he is ready to step up to Championship football.
