This is a huge month for Aston Villa, who are looking to end their Sky Bet Championship nightmare and return to the Premier League.

Steve Bruce’s side are in contention, with their 1-0 victory over Leeds United last weekend securing play-off football, whilst also keeping alive the club’s outside chance of securing automatic promotion.

Villa’s sole focus will be going into their quest for promotion between now and the end of the season, but whatever happens, Bruce will be well aware that there is a huge summer on the horizon.

The playing squad at Villa Park might’ve got them into contention, but there is no doubt that changes will be needed in the summer, both in and out of the club.

With that in mind, we take a look ahead to the summer, identifying FOUR English players that Villa could target in the summer to improve Bruce’s squad…

The 21-year-old goalkeeper is on-loan with Shrewsbury Town in League One.

Like Villa’s Sam Johnstone, he is there on a temporary basis from Manchester United.

Villa want to sign Johnstone, but if they fail to win promotion, he could move elsewhere, leaving a big hole to fill.

Henderson could be the man they turn to if that scenario plays out.

John Terry and James Chester have been magnificent this season, but with the former coming towards the end of his career, another centre-back is going to be needed in the summer.

Bartley is capable of playing in both the Championship or Premier League, which he has shown in the last two seasons at Leeds United and Swansea City.

Villa might not be in a position to bring Robert Snodgrass back to Villa Park next season, and Bruce will know the importance of replacing him on the right.

Lennon is an experienced Premier League winger, who would add a lot to the squad at Villa Park.

The winger’s pace is frightening and he could really improve Bruce’s squad, particularly if they are back in the top-flight.

Left-back is a problem position for Villa, with Alan Hutton, Neil Taylor and James Bree all featuring there in recent weeks.

Bruce might look to find an upgrade in the summer, with Bryan a standout option.

It might take a hefty transfer-fee to lure the Bristol City ace out of Ashton Gate, but it could be well worth it for Villa.
