Ipswich Town midfielder Emyr Huws is set to feature for the club's under-23 side against Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

The 25-year-old has been sidelined for the Town first-team since suffering a serious knee injury in a 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough in December 2017 and was forced to undergo knee surgery.

The player has featured a few times for the under-23s since then, last doing so in August, but he is set to be involved for Gerard Nash's side at Playford Road this afternoon.

The Championship club confirmed the news via social media earlier with this message on Twitter.

The Town under-23 side will go into the clash with the Owls top of the Professional Development League Two South table, five points ahead of second-placed Crystal Palace with a game in hand.

Huws signed a four-year deal at Portman Road in 2017 following a successful loan spell from Cardiff, but it has not worked out as the player would have hoped.

The Welshman missed the opening four months of the 2017/18 season with an Achilles injury and would only making five Championship appearances that season before suffering his latest injury setback in December.

The Verdict:

This is encouraging news for Ipswich Town fans. It is never nice to see a player suffer a serious injury and hopefully Huws will be able to return to first-team action for the Blues in the future.

Huws proved himself to be a good player for the Tractor Boys when signing on loan from Cardiff, but it has not worked out for the midfielder since he signed a permanent deal at Portman Road.

He is still a long way off a return to the first-team side, but this latest news suggests he is making good progress towards a long-term recovery.
