Sunderland endured a game to forget against lowly Bolton Wanderers this weekend as the Black Cats could only muster a 1-1 draw against League One’s bottom side, who currently prop up the table on a points total of minus nine points, following their deduction this summer.
The result not only continues Sunderland’s inconsistent form, but also hypes up the already intense pressure on Black Cats boss Jack Ross, who is expected to win promotion this season after the club’s play off heartbreak last season.
“Sacked in the morning” was the chant that could be heard from the travelling Sunderland support as they expressed their collective displeasure, as the Wearside outfit fell behind to a Jack Hobbs header in the 50th minute before the Stadium of Light club’s blushes were spared by a 92nd minute Aiden McGeady penalty.
The performance was summed up by Black Cats player George Dobson after the game as he gave an interview to the club’s official website, here’s how the Sunderland faithful reacted to his comments on social media….
The result isn’t good enough. I agree. Although it genuinely wasn’t going to be a easy fixture. #bwfc will get stronger as they train together more. The more pressing and concerning issue is the performances. Flat, subdued and genuinely no plan a let alone b. Long season ahead

Fine margins indeed – a missed chance or tackle here and there or indeed weird tactics and changes don’t help either!! Personally, and I know it counts for nowt but I feel Ross has lost confidence, in himself and others. The weird tactics and changes point to this. Needs passion

Same as last season

This lad has a bright future at the club, future captain in my eyes. Just need a decent manager to bring the best out of him

35% of our games under JR have ended 1-1. Surely thats proof we’re not set up to attack and win games. We’re set up to try and not lose. That’s not promotion tactics as was proven last season. We can’t repeat that. #SAFC

One of the few players I praise today. Well played George.
