Wolves are not interested in Rio Ave's Pele despite speculation suggesting the midfielder could be set for a move to the Premier League new boys.

Reports suggested Nuno Espirito Santo was about to raid his former club for the enforcer, who would command a fee of around £9m.

An instagram post from the player himself only added to the rumours, with many thinking a deal was imminent.

However, local journalist Tim Spiers revealed that Pele isn't a target for the Black Country side when replying to a Wolves supporter on twitter.

Santo's pursuit of a midfielder could depend on what happens with Alfred N'Diaye, who joined the club on a season-long loan back in August.

That deal runs out in the coming weeks and it's still unclear as to whether he has a future at Molineux.

Even if he does, Wolves may be in the market for a central midfielder with Romain Saiss and Ruben Neves the only two other senior options in that position at the club.

The Verdict

Wolves were linked with a move for Pele last season but injury prevented that deal, so he is a player they clearly know well.

Given that, many weren't surprised when they were linked with a move for the midfielder again and they do need another player in that role, particularly if they don't keep N'Diaye.

However, going by what Spiers says it won't be Pele.
