New Watford winger, Lloyd Dyer, has said to the Watford Observer that his move to the club was the right one, after rejecting the chance to play in the Premier League at the King Power Stadium with Leicester City.

The thirty-one year old rejected a new one-year-deal with the newly promoted side and opted to stay in the Championship and sign a three-year-deal with the Hornets, after he claimed that the Foxes went against their word regarding their transfer policy.

Watford's new signing has admitted that Matej Vydra was a key factor in him signing for Watford.
Watford's new signing has admitted that Matej Vydra was a key factor in him signing for Watford.

He was offered a new one-year-deal to stay at Nigel Pearson's side, whilst understanding and accepting that was the club's policy was for player's over thirty, but was very disappointed when thirty-year-old defender Wes Morgan agreed to a new three-year-deal with the Premier League outfit.

“I had six great seasons there and I love the club, I’m not going to sit here now and say I don’t. I achieved a lot," Dyer admitted to the Watford Observer.

“They offered me a one-year deal which was in line with their policy. I understood that and accepted that, but I look at Leicester and there are lads there who are over thirty but have been offered more than one year. That was disappointing to see them go against their word," The former West Brom winger stated.

“I had to sit down with my family and make the right decision for myself and them. I feel I’ve made the right choice, I'm a Watford player now and there is no looking back."

The return of top striker Matej Vydra was also a reason why he chose to join the Hornets, as the Championship Player of the Year during the season 2012-13 agreed a season-long loan at Vicarage Road again.

“When I signed my contract I was told he (Vydra) would re-sign with the club,” Dyer said. “That was one of the reasons that I signed my deal to be honest."

Dyer added, “I knew what he had done a couple of seasons ago - he was the main man in the Championship. I thought if he is signing with us then we have a good chance."

The pacey winger has already settled in at Watford, scoring a goal in midweek on his first Watford start against Stevenage in the cup, as he sent the Hornets through to the next round.

The former MK Dons man also knows in demand Watford striker Troy Deeney, as both live in the Birmingham area, although Dyer is looking to move closer to Watford.

Dyer's former club Leicester is one of many Premier League clubs targeting the striker.

“If Troy Deeney stays at Watford that’s a bonus but it’s not my decision, I am just here to play, he said, but stated, "If we keep him then it would help us have a better season.”

Dyer believes even though he isn't featuring in the Premier League with Leicester City, he may do with Watford, as he feels the Hornet's squad is talented enough to reach the top flight if the players put in consistent performances, and to have the perfect guidance.

The perfect guidance is to be performed by Watford boss, Beppe Sannino.

“I haven’t had much conversation with him (Sannino) to be honest,” Dyer admitted.

“He’s got his translator and is getting there though, so he is trying to get his points across.”
