Liverpool will recall youngster Ben Woodburn from his loan spell at Sheffield United after a tough few months for the Wales international.

The 19-year-old arrived at Bramall Lane with a lot of hype as he had already featured for his national team and played in the Reds first-team.

However, the move has not worked, with the teenager only making seven appearances for the Blades and the majority of them came as a substitute.

It became clear Woodburn's future at the Yorkshire outfit would be reassessed in the winter when he was allowed to play for Liverpool's development side in order to get some game time.

And, the Sheffield Star have revealed that the Premier League leaders are set to confirm their decision to bring him back soon.

That won't be a shock to anyone connected with the Blades and they have already brought in a replacement for the youngster.

Kieran Dowell joined from Everton at the start of the window on loan for the rest of the season and will hope to make more of an impact than Woodburn did.

The Verdict

These things happen in football but Woodburn's move to Sheffield United didn't work out as anyone would've hoped and it makes sense that he will go back.

Quite why it didn't work is hard to say but clearly he didn't fit in to the way that Chris Wilder wants to play.

Now, they have Dowell and Woodburn will benefit from going back to work with Liverpool ahead of another potential loan move.
