Leeds United and Middlesbrough have seen an added sense of animosity in recent months owing to the fact Garry Monk swapped West Yorkshire for Teesside in the summer.

At this point, though it is Leeds that have the upper hand with them on the brink on the play-offs and Monk potentially on the brink with his job as results continue to frustrate.

January, meanwhile, is going to be big for both sides and according to today's print version of the Mirror - via HITC - young Liverpool winger Ryan Kent could be on the move to one of them.

Indeed, Kent is currently on loan at German club Freiburg but the report is suggesting that the Reds want to recall him in January.

That could lead to a more local loan for the rest of this campaign and both Leeds and Boro are accredited with an interest in the player.

Kent has spent time in the Championship in his career already with him at Barnsley not too long ago and his performances there were pretty good.

A direct, pacy winger, Kent could be a pretty good player with the right coaching and both sides will feel as though they can offer that.

The Verdict

Kent is a decent player but needs to be playing regularly to really fulfill his potential.

Either Leeds or Boro could get him, then, and we'd argue that Leeds might be the better place for him at the moment with them doing better in the league.
