Ben Woodburn is on Wigan Athletic’s radar this summer, as they prepare themselves for a return to the Sky Bet Championship.

According to Alan Nixon, often a reliable source on social media, Woodburn is a man in-demand this summer, with Wigan amongst the clubs looking to secure the service of the Liverpool talent.

The reliable journalist admits that others are also interested in the midfielder, whilst Wigan’s financial situation will have to be resolved.

Woodburn is amongst a pool of extremely talented players at Anfield, with Liverpool continuing to produce talent.

The 18-year-old has 11 senior appearances under his belt for Liverpool, which have brought one goal, which came against Leeds United in the League Cup back in 2016.

His form so far in his senior career has led to international honours, with Woodburn already a full Welsh international.

Like he did for his club, he burst onto the international scene in dramatic fashion, scoring the winning goal in Wales’ 1-0 victory over Austria in September 2017.

He has featured for Liverpool so far in pre-season, but it remains to be seen if he plays a part in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the new season, having made just two club appearances last season.

The Verdict

It comes as a surprise that Wigan are amongst the Championship clubs chasing Woodburn.

If Wigan can land a deal for the 18-year-old, it would be some coup for Paul Cook’s side.

There’s no denying Woodburn’s talent, with the midfielder having a bright future ahead of him.

If Liverpool are willing to let Woodburn leave, it could alert a number of Championship clubs.
