Sheffield United have identified Ben Woodburn as a transfer target, with Chris Wilder waiting to hear if Liverpool will allow the midfielder to leave on-loan this summer.

According to a report in the Sheffield Star, Woodburn has been identified as a potential signing the Blades could make this summer.

Wilder is expecting to hear if Liverpool will allow the 18-year-old to leave this summer, with the Sheffield United boss hoping for news in the coming days.

So far during his senior career, Woodburn has 11 senior appearances under his belt for Liverpool.

The midfielder has one goal to his name for the club, and has done enough to impress Wales, who have called him up to their senior squad on a number of occasions already.

Woodburn has been capped on six occasions by Wales, with the midfielder already opening his goalscoring account on the international stage.

The Sheffield Star’s report highlights that Woodburn could be a replacement for David Brooks, who has departed Bramall Lane for AFC Bournemouth this summer.

Another Premier League youngster on Sheffield United’s radar is Sam Gallagher, who is at Southampton, but has spent the last two years on-loan in the Championship with Blackburn and Birmingham City.

The Verdict

Woodburn would be an exciting addition to Wilder’s squad.

The teenager is a real talent and is capable of playing in a number of different positions.

Wilder could be the perfect man to aid Woodburn’s development, with a year in the Championship something that the Liverpool ace could really benefit from.
